Austin Deck - Director of External Affairs

What is your program and year of study?
I am currently going into my 2nd year of the Practical Nursing Diploma Program.

What made you decide to run for Executive?
I decided to run for Executive Council after years of being active in the political scene and after experiencing hardship and adversity at the college level without having any knowledge or support. I knew that with COVID-19 it was even more important to have Bow Valley College students voices heard at the table. I also believed it was time to provide a voice on council that provided the LGBTQ2S+  perspective and offered more diversity to the governance of SABVC.

What excites you about taking on the role of Director of External Affairs?
What makes me the most excited to take on the role of Director of External Affairs would be the opportunity to create opportunity for the membership of the Student Association through external networking and advocacy. It is a rare time when one has the chance to make a significant time in another’s life. I aim to not only be a person that can make students realize they are being heard and understood but also a launching pad for new ideas and opportunities to offer the students and a warrior that protects the membership and their values/goals through advocacy with all levels of government.

What is something you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I can be found teaching yoga, traveling to the mountains, heading to the gym, watching Rupauls Drag Race, comparing myself to others via social media only to feel guilty about it 3 minutes later and of course dancing.
